Last message from Laura (Mon)

Dear family and friends,

I have to echo Molly's words by sharing my appreciation for all of you who have support us on this trip- it truly would not be possible without you. Thank you so much for your giving and prayers. You have allowed us to show so much love to the people here.

I am sad to leave but very eager to come home and share my experience with all of you. It has been so wonderful and God has done so much in a through me. I am looking forward to telling you all about the things that God is doing here and how we can be more involved. I have taken lots of wonderful pictures- I am sorry I am not able to get them on the website! You will get to enjoy them when we return.

Today we went to see the Source of the Nile River (starting at Lake Victoria). We also saw Bujigali Falls- there were a number of kyakers (sp?) braving the falls. Really cool to watch. The falls were beautiful. Don called it the Garden of Eden. I told him I think it's somewhere in Iraq, but he said it must be as beautiful. We also ate lunch at Gately Resort- a wonderful meal outside overlooking Lake Victoria. After lunch we visited Amani Baby Cottage- an orphanage for small children. The babies were so precious. Amani is directed by a woman named Denine from Texas- she has done a wonderful job. The facility is beautiful. We really enjoyed our brief visit there. We also did a little more shopping in Jinja- just a few more souveniers to bring back. The prices really are very good for everything- and you can barter!

It has been very quiet here at Canaan because most of the children left yesterday to visit family (uncles, aunts, grandparents). There are maybe only 15 children left- we have enjoyed spending some time with them. It was very hard to say goodbye to those who have left- tears and hugs.

Thank you for those of you who have been praying, leaving wonderful supportive messages and thinking about us. Knowing we have people who care about us means so much. I am looking forward to coming home. God has been good! Please pray for us as we travel for the next two days- it will be long and exhausting--certainly the least fun part of the trip. I love you!

PS...we were dumbfounded to hear about OSU. Curious to hear the excuses.

Hi Laura,
My name is Carmen Mims and I'm considering going to the Canaan Children's Home to volunteer this summer. I googled the orphanage and your blog site was the next site beside their homepage.
I'm really excited and really nervous about my trip to Jinja. I know I don't even know you, but I was wondering if you could give me any advice from your experience there? It sounds like such a wonderful place and I'm sure there is no reason to worry. I'm going by myself and as female, I worry about travel, etc. Do you have any warnings or safety advice?
Your response would mean the world to me as I plan my trip!

Thank you so so so much!
